Tyto Online’s Cells module addresses the NGSS topic arrangement for Structure, Function, and Information Processing, as well as Matter and Energy in Organisms and Ecosystems.
View Storylines >Several Tyto students have fallen ill with similar symptoms within the last day! Players must go sleuthing to discover what made the students so sick. As it turns out, the mystery illness was caused by single-celled organisms living in the drinking water.
View StorylineOne of the students that players cured in the previous sequence is feeling shell-shocked about his bout with dysentery. He is worried that all cells potentially pose a threat to his health. Players identify many different types of cells that exist within the human body, and learn about the ways that each type of cell functions, either as a sole agent or as part of a larger whole.
View StorylineAn experimental biodome housing a variety of plants and animals under carefully controlled conditions has malfunctioned. Most of the artificial sky has been stuck on “night mode” for many days. Players learn about how photosynthesis enables plants to create their own food, and that sunlight plays a vital role in this process.
View StorylineElektra is an amputee, and her prosthetic needs an update. She’s been suffering from Phantom Limb Syndrome lately, and would like her new prosthetic to help mitigate it. Players identify the body systems that her current prosthetic is replacing, research the potential causes and solutions for Phantom Limb Syndrome, and develop a new design that will provide Elektra with the perfect replacement for her arm replacement.

The storyline starts with an anchoring phenomenon that a new sickness is spreading, and we need to figure out how to stop it! We have students run multiple experiments and investigations as they iterate their recommendations based on the disease's infection data and the new evidence they continue to gather. Our goal is to help students understand the process of science when answers are needed fast, and why WHO/CDC recommendations therefore also changed over time.
