We're an ed-tech startup with an audacious vision of how games can be used to
empower student learning.
One day, while playing World of Warcraft, our founder realized how much she had learned, simply through the act of play. Thousands of items, boss strategies, awesome problem solving… it’s just that the content didn’t matter outside of the game world.
As she went to a doctoral program in education, she increasingly realized what a perfect model an online game could provide for a learning platform. After not seeing anything out there taking advantage of the full power of the medium, she was driven to create it — and so, Immersed Games was born.
The process of playing a game is the process of learning.
You are learning about how to play the game – the strategies, items, what everything in the game world does. It just so happens that most of the time that learning doesn’t matter outside of the game world.
But what if it did?
What if the same game mechanics were used in a game where the learner could generalize it, where it would matter for real learning?
We raised $50,617 from 309 backers who believed in our vision for creating an empowering, deep learning platform with a video game! We promised to bring the early access of Tyto Online out with it.
View KickstarterWe then decided to make a smaller portion and release it on its own first: Tyto Ecology. It's sold over 30,000 copies on Steam, despite being made to teach middle school science!
View on SteamWe then headed to Silicon Valley for a bit to have support from Intel's Education Accelerator. By Demo Day, we launched the beta of Tyto Online into early access.
