Overview

Immersed Games helps teachers engage their students in actively doing science, by providing a video game that empowers students to directly explore science phenomena and solve authentic problems. For example, students work with a botanist to solve a food shortage while learning about genetics, or they investigate why a seal is sick to uncover a microplastics problem that must be addressed. Basically, Tyto Online helps empower students as they experience what it’s like to “do” science. We’re designed for middle school with the new three-dimensional science standards, and are designed with strategies to engage marginalized students in STEM.

We are a small, multidisciplinary team that is excited to help build a generation of scientifically passionate and literate students, and our work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and Department of Education. We’re looking for team members enthusiastic about this mission to work alongside us.

What will you do?

Your role can be summed up as: working with our Founder & CEO to establish and validate our sales process beyond Founder Sales, growing our revenues for financial sustainability.

We are an early stage startup, so you’ll be our first Sales role (besides our Founder/CEO), and will work directly with her. We’re looking for an experienced sales rep that can hit the ground running and making sales in an early stage startup! You’ll have the opportunity to help us grow the Sales/Marketing team, and collaborate across the organization with our Customer Success and Design/Product teams, based on the feedback you provide from the sales process

  • You will manage the sales lifestyle from initial prospect through product demonstration and final contract preparation.
  • You will be able to use a consultative approach, selling to and providing excellent sales support to prospects, resulting in revenue generation for Immersed Games.
  • You will help create the sales processes. We have an initial Sales Playbook but it’s only based on the experiences of our Founder & CEO’s direct sales and has not been used at scale. We don’t want to waste months on strategies that aren’t working, so if you experience that a targeted demographic, message, or another component is not succeeding, we’ll want to work together to adjust our approach, learning quickly.
  • You are excited about selling an innovative science product, and about figuring out how to refine the systems and processes to do so efficiently — setting the groundwork for growing the Sales team.
  • You’ll manage quote creation, order processing, and respond to day-to-day prospect requests.
  • You will maintain records of all sales interactions using our CRM (emails will be auto-tracked), and keep sales data updated, helping us accurately forecast upcoming product sales.
  • You’ll gather feedback from prospects and current customers in order to drive product improvements as necessary.
  • You’ll likely spend a significant amount of time selling within the BOCES system in New York, since we have a contract with Erie 1 BOCES, therefore managing relationships, setting up Lunch & Learn opportunities, etc.

Additional responsibilities we can determine together, such as whether you would want to participate in conventions and conduct product demonstrations versus having the Customer Success team join for these activities. Your work will be critical in building our early sales traction, providing feedback to the Product/Implementation teams on what features may drive more adoptions, and working towards financial sustainability of the company.

Location. Our team is based in Buffalo, NY and most of our team works together locally. However, this role is not required to be based here and can work remotely. We are most focused on the best fit. But if you want to work out of our Buffalo office, we’d be thrilled to set you up with an office here with us!

What are we looking for?

  • You have experience selling curriculum within schools and districts (K-12). We have a preference for someone with existing relationships, but mainly want to make sure we’re connecting with an experienced sales representative who can use that experience to help us grow this part of our business.
  • You are empathetic to the challenges educators and administrators experience in serving their communities and care deeply about empowering students’ learning. Hopefully you’re also passionate about the role game-based learning can play in supporting this goal!
  • You’re an excellent communicator and relationship builder, able to communicate via email, live chat, phone, video calls, and of course in-person;
  • You are an analytic, flexible thinker and learner who will be able to make recommendations based on unique district needs and adjust based on what we learn to improve our sales prospecting/targeted, messaging, and processes.
  • Preferably, you have some experience with or knowledge of working within the BOCES system, but we can also figure that out together.
  • You are willing to travel, as needed, for sales meetings with potential district partners.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: Negotiable based on a mix of salary, commission, and equity stock options.

Perks:

  • If you’re in NY based in our office, you’ll pay no NY State Income tax, due to our participation in the Startup NY program (being based in our office is required to receive this program’s income tax exemption).
  • Flex scheduling: make your own schedule and work when it’s best for you. Of course, in sales, that also has to be when it works for the partners you’re working with!
  • Flexible paid vacation.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Retirement savings plan (401k).

We know this list is currently missing some important benefits, mainly health insurance, that we plan to add during 2022 as the company grows. Right now, we help our employees with the process of using the ACA Marketplace, and are looking forward to growing our sales so that we can afford to give our employees everything they deserve.

How to Apply

Simply email lindsey@immersedgames.com an introduction email and your resume or LinkedIn, and we’ll get back to you as quickly as we can!

What’s it like working with us?

We’re a small team, so we focus on making our collaboration as productive as possible, with minimal meetings disrupting your flow. We have weekly meetings for each team to collaborate and set goals and bi-monthly full team meetings to go over larger business objectives.

We’re flexible to the needs of our staff with an open, communicative environment where everyone has access to everyone else on the team. We value everyone’s feedback and ideas, since critical insights can come from anywhere. Nothing is unchangeable, and anything/anyone can be questioned!

We value inclusivity and diversity, and know our product has benefited from LGBTQ team members impacting the design of character creation (no gender choices, just body styles), or members with ADHD giving feedback on UX designs. Also, being more diverse simply makes a company stronger as research shows you’re less likely to have group think. Our Founder/CEO says that nothing is sacred or beyond questioning, and we love when people are willing to just work alongside everyone, including our CEO, as equals.

We’re still small, so there is ample room for growth as our company grows. We always promote from within first if the person is up to the task — which means you could end up creating an entire team around you, if that’s the type of role you’re interested in.
